Which lock fits which outlet and inlet

A locking cord only locks where the other side is built for it. One row per mechanism, one column per outlet and inlet type; this is the rule the site's Lock Finder uses.

Lock at the PDU: P-Lock, P-Lite, V-Lock, Dual-Lock, Z-Lock+, Z-Lock.

Lock at the equipment: V-Lock, A-Lock, S-Lock, Dual-Lock, Z-Lock+, Z-Lock, IEC Lock.

Both ends: V-Lock, Dual-Lock, Z-Lock+, Z-Lock. Only the plain-outlet pair, Z-Lock+ and Z-Lock, lock both ends without a matching PDU.

Two spring tabs, the P-shaped clips on either side of the plug head, click into the latch slots of a P-Lock-ready outlet as the plug seats; pull on the cord and the tabs bear on the outlet, not the pins. On a plain outlet with no latch slots the plug seats and carries current like any C14 or C20, but has nothing to catch. The connector at the equipment end is standard and locks nothing.

The PDU has P-Lock-ready outlets (Server Technology, Raritan, Vertiv Geist, Eaton G4, GELU) and the equipment end can stay a standard connector.

The P-Lock latch on one side of a low-profile C14 plug head whose other side is recessed, so a fingertip reaches the tab between neighbours on a fully loaded PDU. Same P-Lock-ready outlets as P-Lock; the lock is the same latch, the head is what changed. Stocked as C14 to C13 on slim 18 AWG SVT for high-density rows.

Schurter's V-Lock cord-retention system: the plug and the connector each carry a spring latch, marked with the yellow V, that clicks into the notch of a V-Lock outlet or inlet. APC adopted it for the AP8000-series Rack PDU 2G and Panduit for SmartZone G5. On any outlet or inlet without the notch the cord seats and works but does not lock at that end.

Press the yellow latch and pull, at whichever end you are freeing.

The PDU has V-Lock outlets, APC AP8000-series or Panduit SmartZone G5, and, if the equipment end must lock too, the gear has a V-Lock inlet.

A-Lock

Spring fingers inside the connector grip the pins of any standard C14, C16 or C20 inlet as it is pushed on. The plug is a standard, non-locking plug, so the PDU side does not matter. The first universal locking connector; same current and voltage ratings as the plain connector. Available with IEC C14 / C20 plugs and NEMA 5-15P / L6-20P.

S-Lock

SSEMCO's rotary lock: a quarter turn of the grey collar on the connector body drives internal pins that pinch the inlet's pins. Fits any standard C14 or C20 inlet; the PDU side does not matter. Made for full PDUs, where there is no room beside the connector to reach a tab. Rated 10 / 13 / 15 A (UL), 10 A (VDE), on the C13, C15 and C19 connector.

SSEMCO's D-Lock: a P-Lock plug for a P-Lock-ready PDU outlet and an S-Lock rotary connector for any standard equipment inlet, on one cord. Two different release motions on purpose, so freeing one end does not free the other by reflex. The plug end needs the same outlets as P-Lock.

Z-Lock+

Zonit, built by World Cord Sets
Holds
Zonit's Z-Lock Plus. At the PDU a low-profile locking nut, tightened after the plug is seated, clamps the plug in any standard C13 or C19 outlet. At the equipment a spring latch inside the connector grips any standard C14 or C20 inlet. A seating line on the connector shell shows it is home; two coloured ID rings per end. ZLP on our part numbers; built on our East Windsor line as Zonit's authorized manufacturer, UL Listed under file E360479.
Release
PDU end: back the nut off as far as it goes and pull. Equipment end: slide the connector shell back and pull.

Zonit's original two-ended lock. The cords we stock carry Well Shin's locking plug (WS-003) and auto-locking connector (WS-003A): a red slider at each end, the plug gripping inside any standard outlet, the connector gripping any standard inlet. Zonit's later zC14 / zC20 plug used a knurled locking nut instead of the slider: back it out, seat the plug, tighten a quarter to half turn. Remaining stock only.
Release
Pull the red slider back at the end you are freeing and pull. On a nut-type plug, loosen the nut as far as it goes.

IEC Lock

Scolmore's IEC Lock: a latch inside the C13 connector grips the earth pin of any standard C14 inlet. The plug is a standard C14. Built here on LSZH (low-smoke zero-halogen) cordage at 10 A, 250 V, for rooms where a cable fire must not fill the space with acid smoke.

Pull the red tab on top of the connector back and withdraw it; the same tab is pulled back to fit it.

PDU outlet types, and who makes them

A brand is listed under an outlet type only where the PDU maker or the cord maker says so; brands named only in reseller copy are kept apart. If your PDU is not here, send us the model and we will check the outlet before you order.

P-Lock-ready PDU outlet

An outlet with latch slots inside its recessed face for the P-Lock tabs to click into. PDU makers call it lockable, lock-ready, SecureLock-ready, P-Lock compatible or high-retention.

Server Technology — Lockable / lock-ready outlets, including the HDOT and HDOT Cx outlets: "P-Lock is the only locking cable compatible with new high density Server Technology HDOT PDUs." [3]
Raritan — Every Raritan PX PDU with C13 / C19 outlets is SecureLock-ready, with latch slots inside the outlet; Raritan's SecureLock cords are P-Lock plugs. Standard cords still fit, they just do not lock. [4]
Vertiv / Geist — The high-retention colour-coded outlets and the Combination C13 / C19 outlet are P-Lock cable compatible. U-Lock is a different Geist receptacle that latches a standard plug (see plain outlets). [22]
Eaton (Tripp Lite series) — "Cords with a P-Lock C14 connector are compatible with Eaton PDU G4 PDUs and other PDUs with P-Lock C13 or C39 outlets"; the C20 plug fits P-Lock C19 or C39 outlets. [2]
GELU — Named in our P-Lock collection copy and by Cables Plus USA: P-Lock receptacles "are found on ServerTech, Raritan, and GELU power distribution units." [23]

Also reported: Knürr, Bachmann. Named as P-Lock compatible in reseller copy (StayOnline, Signal+Power) but not by the PDU maker or by us. Tell us the model before ordering in volume.

V-Lock PDU outlet

Schurter's notched outlet that the yellow V-Lock latch clicks into. APC AP8000-series Rack PDU 2G units and Panduit SmartZone G5 PDUs carry it.

APC / Schneider Electric — AP8000-series Rack PDU 2G switched and metered-by-outlet units have locking IEC receptacles; APC's own locking cord kits (AP8702S, AP8704S, AP8714R) are V-Lock and "the locking feature is enabled only when used with APC AP8000 series Rack PDUs or IT equipment with built-in locking receptacles." [8]
Panduit SmartZone G5 — Panduit's G5 locking cords lock at the PDU and at the equipment; "G5 PDU side is also V-Lock compatible." [9]

Plain C13 / C19 outlet

Any PDU, power strip or wall outlet with no latch slot and no notch, including the outlets that lock a standard plug from the outlet side.

Outlets that lock a standard plug from the outlet side

Vertiv Geist U-Lock — Plug a standard cord in to lock it; depress the bezel to release. C13 and C19. [24]
Server Technology RamLock — A self-locking elbow catch in the HDOT outlet that holds a standard cord. [25]
Chatsworth eConnect QuadLock — C13 / C15 / C19 / C21 outlets that lock any standard cord, "without requiring any proprietary power cords" (July 2025). [26]
Legrand locking C13 / C19 outlets — A cord-locking system in the outlet, "compatible with all cords". [27]
Eaton / Tripp Lite Plug-Lock inserts — A coloured sleeve pushed onto a standard C14 plug so it grips a C13 outlet; no locking cord involved. [28]

Our locking plugs seat in every one of these, because they are standard C14 / C20 shapes underneath; whether the outlet's own latch also grips them is untested. If your PDU is one of these and the lock you want is at the PDU, a standard cord already locks there: put the cord's lock at the equipment end (A-Lock, S-Lock, IEC Lock), or send us the model and we will check the pair.
